How To Use Windows 10 Themes

To use Windows 10 themes you must first look for a theme to use. To find themes, you’ll need to open the Windows Store and access the themes section.

Before we continue, it should be noted that to be able to use Windows 10 themes, you must have access to the latest Windows 10 Creators Update.

If you have the Windows 10 Creators Update installed on your computer, follow the steps below to find the themes store.

  • Open the Start Menu and search for ‘Settings’
  • Open the Settings app when it appears in the search results
  • Click the ‘Personalization’ option on the Settings app
  • On the left side of the next page, click ‘Themes’
  • Click the ‘Get More Themes in the Store’ link

If this link is grayed out and you cannot click it, this means you do not yet have the latest Windows 10 Creators Update. If this is the case, you’ll need to wait until the update is rolled out to your PC before you can customize themes.

If the link is blue and you can access it, keep reading to learn more about how to apply themes.

You can browse the theme to download different themes that are available. Some themes are free, whilst other themes will cost you money. Some themes will change the visual appearance of Windows 10, whilst some themes will go as far as adding new system sounds.

Once you have downloaded a theme, follow the steps below to apply your theme.

  • Open the Start Menu and search for ‘Settings’
  • Open the Settings app when it appears in the search results
  • Click the ‘Personalization’ option on the Settings app
  • On the left side of the next page, click ‘Themes’
  • Scroll down to the ‘Apply a Theme’ section
  • Click on the theme that you’d like to apply. (Your newly downloaded themes will also appear here)
  • Your theme will now be applied

If you’d like to change the color or other attributes of your chosen theme, scroll up and click ‘Sounds,’ ‘Background,’ ‘Color,’ and ‘Mouse Cursor,’ to change each respective element.
